I have officially been in Nicaragua for two weeks. Honestly, it feels more like a month. Already so much has happened. I am working with the REAP organization in the city of Granada. They have a big focus not only on ministry, but on pouring into us. They have a lot of different ministries they do and they are very flexible. Some of the different ministries are prayer walking, hospital, prison, and farming. The base I live at is a giant 70 acre farm. We are constantly surrounded by the workers and have formed a nice little community. On the base they host official soccer, baseball, and basketball games. It is a way to get people into a good community away from the struggles of home.
My days here are a lot slower than in the other countries I’ve been too. The emphasis on spending time with the Lord is great. There is a lot of free time they give us just to sit with the Lord and process. We have also been doing a book reading with another team that is here and that has been so amazing. The ministry here has been so great. My first day of ministry I went to a prison and I was able to share with about 30 prisoners the story of the prodigal son and tell them about the love of Christ. I’ve done a lot of prayer walking since being here. Basically, you just walk around the neighborhood with a translator and get to meet and pray for people. I think back to my own life in the past where all I wanted was prayer and encouragement from someone. Now I get to be that person for someone else; for people who are in way worse conditions than I was.
We are in one of the poorest countries in Central America and it definitely shows. From what I’ve witnessed, the people are really trying to learn about Christ. Life is hard, but for those of them who know Christ it has been made so much easier. I’ve heard story after story of how this has taken place. God is moving here within these people. I can’t tell what exactly, but I know God is gonna do some amazing things while I’m here. I’m really excited to see what he’s going to do. Home is only a month and a half away. I’m not trying to count down the days. If anything I’m counting the days that I get to stay. I’m so excited to be here with these people. Sure it’s always hot and there are some struggles, but the joy of doing God’s work shines past all the discomfort. Thank you all again for your support. It truly means a lot.
